Middle name Warne

The name 'Warne' appears as a middle name for at least two members of the Fitt family:-
Frederick Warne Fitt 1806-1878
James George Warne Fitt (1895-)
Also, Thomas Fitt (1722-1799) mentions in his will of 1797 a 'good friend' James Warne.

Susanna Fitt (c.1681-1757), daughter of James Fitt innkeeper of Winchester, married John Newby (-1716). Their fifth child, Anne (1709-1795) married Henry Warne (1701-1782) carpenter of Hursley. Their surviving son was James Warne (1750 -1830).

Priory Farm (Selborne) sale

Priory farm, occupied by Benjamin FITT (1800 - 1869), was put up for sale in 1866. Advertisements appeared in the August and September editions of 'The Hampshire Telegraph and Sussex Chronicle' for 'a very Valuable Leasehold Estate'.

Could it be that Magdalen College, Oxford were disposing of their assets?

From his death certificate, Benjamin FITT died at Selborne, all other certificates state 'Priory Farm, Selborne'. So it could be that Benjamin and Dinah were already set up as butchers in Selborne at the time of Benjamin's death in 1869.

Hannah WEST (formerly SCOTT) buried

Hannah SCOTT was born in Horsted Keynes, Sussex and married Samuel WEST in Lindfield in 1808. Samuel died in 1825. I have spent a long time looking to bury Hannah, or finding her in the 1841 census (though I did find her parents). She, of course remarried - to a William HEAVER in 1830 and they lived in Forest Row, Sussex. She was bried there in 1869, William in 1862.

Thomas KNIGHT baptised?

Thomas KNIGHT, farmer of Bury, was buried on the 17th April 1808 aged 68. So he was born about 1740.
There is a baptism of a Thomas KNIGHT on the 24th March 1740 at Billingshurst, the son of Thomas and Anne. A Thomas KNIGHT and Anne STRUDWICK (of Exceat) were married at West Dean (Lewes) on the 17th June 1740.
Is this it?
A Thomas & Anne were baptising in Bury starting with Anne KNIGHT on the 3rd May 1746.
Looks as if I have got back another generation!

Assume nothing!

Ann WEST was the daughter of William and Mary WEST. In William's will of 1818 she is described as the wife of Charles MUSTON and in 1820 is in receipt of of money from the probate.
But where was she born and what else can be found about her?
MUSTON is a 'Sussex' name so I assumed she would be in Sussex.
However, from the 1841 census she is living at Hinckley in Leicestershire and in 1851 in Clifton, Gloucestershire (born Storrington). Charles MUSTON is described as a woolstapler, born Atherstone, Warwickshire.
Assume nothing!

Hannah WEST buried!

Hannah SCOTT (baptised 10th May 1789 at Horsted Keynes) was the wife of Samuel WEST (1764 - 1825) of Lindfield. Searching the burial registers and 1841 and 1851 census of Lindfield and surrounding parishes produced no evidence of Hannah WEST.
But, thanks to the Sussex Marriage Index CD a Hannah WEST married a William HEAVER at Hartfield in 1830. Witnesses were Edward and Philadelphia SCOTT. The 1851 census of East Grinstead has Hannah HEAVER a nurse in the High street born Horsted Keynes and William HEAVER in Forest Row with Esther WEST age 7 months, grand daughter.
FreeBMD has death entries for Hannah in 1869 and William in 1862.
So that is that then!
(Esther was the illegitimate daughter of Eliza WEST, Hannah and Samuel's daughter)

Thomas Knight buried

Thomas KNIGHT was born about 1742, a farmer at Horncroft End, Bury; Left a will (1809) but was not buried at Bury (nor his wife Mary) - so where?
A request to the MI index run by the Sussex Family History Group gives a Thomas KNIGHT buried at Fittleworth 13th April 1809 aged 68; And a few more KNIGHTs. I could have got James's marriage to Charlotte LUER wrong!
(So why didn't I check Fittleworth? - bamboozled by a marriage in East Dean (E.Sx) of a Thomas KNIGHT of Billingshurst and Ann STRUDWICK that's why)
